It happened around fourty years ago that a wine pitcher he inherited raised Mr. Winkler’s attention towards pink Zsolnay pieces. That is when his devoted collecting work began and today his collection, counting nearly 1,000 pink porcelain objects, is on display in the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter. Mr. Winkler tells stories in his book entitled „In the beginning was the pink…" about the adventurous ways he acquired some pieces as well as about the about the history of the first years of the factory.
The exhibition shows that the majority of these objects were hand made in the beginning, so there are no two identical pieces. They differ either in their spout, handle or shape, but quite often their glazing also contrast one-another. Almost all of them show their old age but the fact that they remained proves how they were handled with love and care for more than 100 years.
These pink objects became the famous everyday items of bathrooms, kitchens, dining and workrooms in Hungary and the neighbouring countries too. They were used in the villages as well as in bigger cities.
Opening hours:
Tuesday to Sunday: 10:00 – 16:00
